I'm Afraid Of Americans

"I'm afraid of Americans" is a song by David Bowie. I've got this song on one of the best of Bowie albums, I can't say I can recall the tune or lyrics, but I've always remembered the title, and it's when I see things like http://www.protectmarriage.com/ that I think, I don't need to know the lyrics, I know exactly what you mean David Bowie.

Through a tedious linking of stories, I happened upon this site. It relates to a local government law amendment called proposition 8. Specifically this proposition, um, proposes, that same-sex marriages be de-legalised.

Backward steps in human rights aside, the website gives me the creeps in the same way that Victorian china dolls do. Quotes such as:

[Proposition 8] protects our children from being taught in public schools that “same-sex marriage” is the same as traditional marriage, and prevents other consequences to Californians who will be forced to not just be tolerant of gay lifestyles, but face mandatory compliance regardless of their personal beliefs.

It's almost like the Californians in this case, are fighting a guerilla war on change. The evolution of sociology itself. Perhaps proposition 9 will remove the right to vote from black people, proposition 10 will remove the right for women to vote.

http://www.noonprop8.com/ is the counter-argument. If Sarah Palin get's anywhere near the whitehouse I'm moving to Sweeden.
