My Week - 12th October, 2008

Well, it's Sunday back to work tomorrow and time to reflect on the week.

House and Home

Got some nice new furninture for the living room from argos.

  • Long TV cabinet, down from £55 to £30 (Bargain, it's huge)
  • Nest of Tables, not my cup of tea but there we are
  • Shoe cupboard for the hall (my shoes don't fit! )

With the new TV cabinet in place, I realised that I could finally put my surround sound speakers in place! First time in 8+ months I've been able to use them. Shame I can't find the spdif cable, have to get one tomorrow instead. This is good news because I now have a weapon against the Trance music loving nutters next door.

Top top it off, maganged to get a PS3. Goes against the grain but I think, long term it's the best option. I planing on borrowing my brother-in-laws xbox 360 for the bulk of the gaming and when that's over I'll switch to the ps3. Got to say though, I am very impressed with the quality and the silence versus the 360, and I like the fact that I can install Linux as a second OS option, so I can turn it into a  truely universal media player.

We're just so eager to move in now, it's looking like this saturday we'll be moving in, I can't wait. It's feeling so much more homely there now.

I banged my head six times this weekend, got a few bumps to show for it.

Work

In work, I've moved desks to get a nice view of the prison, and also got a brand new chair, really comfy and lacking in dodgy looking stains.

Things are going well, I'm producing my first purposeful linked web part. The feedback from schools has been great but the internal department politics is becoming very annoying. I don't like people thinking they can manipulate me behind James's back (My manager). James is a top guy and I worry that the constant political manouvering that goes on behind our backs will land him in trouble though no fault of his own. It's really not nice!

Certain people seem to think our work is for them, and its their place to set deadlines, and schedule our work when in fact they are nothing but a glorified co-worker, at best, and more accuratly just desktop support.
