Writing A Book

Posted on Tuesday, 10 March 2009 12:55

I'm planning on writing a book about how to get the most out of SharePoint in a school environment. It may even be a series of books depending on what happens.

With so many schools, education authorities, and other learning establishments using Microsoft SharePoint for their Portals and Intranets, I want to write about how you can use standard SharePoint components, custom webparts (with source code) and SQL databases to maximise the user experience. I also want to write about my experiences dealing with Sims Web Parts.

Some rough ideas I have for the contents are:

- (Develop) "Todays Time table" Web Part for Sims users

- (Develop) Create a central news solution

- (Configuration) Common Sims misconfiguration

- (Develop) Create an attractive image gallery

- (Develop) Create an attractive documents interface

- (Develop) Perform housekeeping on Time table lists

- (SQL) Set up a school database

- (Develop) Set up true social networking for SharePoint

Hopefully the book won't take too long, and I may release the items section by section, as most of them have a fair bit of code in them. I also have to make sure there's no similarity to work I've done already.

If you're interested or have some thoughts, then please add a comment, I'll get back tou you.
