Nineplanfailed, Our Innocence Lost, and Darling Waste

Posted on Monday, 06 July 2009 13:09

Decided for a last-minute spin to Hirwaun last night to take my mind off things, to go see Demetrie with Nineplanfailed. He was opening for two acts, Out Innocence Lost, and Darling Waste.

Nineplanfailed

"What time are you on?" I said, "About 9" Demetrie says. I actually, through not knowing where I was going, got there for 8:30, just in time to catch the last song of a six song set, gutted. The last song was my favourite though so things could've been worse.

The guys looked like they had played their hearts out, and clearly made an impression on Lance from Darling Waste. Everyone wanted 60 seconds of "DIE, DIE, DIE, DIE" in their sets too.

The good news is that they're going to start recording soon, I am wetting myself in anticipation.

Our Innocence Lost

The second act of the night, were very impressive. The Manchester 4-Piece were very, very professional, with a good element of style, image, and choreography to their set.

The sound, more importantly, was phenomenal, it was ambrosia for the ears, a sublime sound. They were an incredible talent and almost certainly one to watch for the future.

Darling Waste

Lance Williams, Lead Singer and multi-instrument musician / songwriter from Darling Waste, was over from New York, minus his band, and performed a comprehensive set, alternating between electro acoustic guitar, and keyboard (at one point launching into a heart warming rendition of Celine Dions Titanic theme).

The songs were wonderfully written folksy ballads about everything from divorce, to assholes, and self harming. Vocally very dynamic, he really suited the unplugged setup. On top of that he was charming and engaging on the stage. Also deveilishly handsome! (Did I mention he appears to be my twin! True story).

Picked up a couple of his albums and had a listen through today, and the great thing is that the songs sound great in a different way with the full band, not better or worse, just different.
