Sean Kennedy

I learned the story of Sean Kennedy today. It was through a series of chance encounters and ultimately it was through the Darling Waste album I came to hear the moving story of Seans life and death, read by his mother.

This poor boy was a kind soul, who saw the good in everyone, yet his life was cut tragically short by a thug who beat him up for no reason other than he was gay. Sean died from his injuries in hospital.

I was really upset listening to his mother, not just because the story was so moving but because in this day and age, people are murdered each year because of sexual orientation, colour or race, and this really made me stop and think about the irrational suffering endured by people in the worlds wealthiest countries.

Logic says this will improve, it has to, the world is becoming more accepting by the day, but with that, extreme anti-tollerance minorities are likely to spring up and strike with extreme prejudice and violence. The civilised world is often the most savage.
