Can I start by thanking my mother

Posted on Thursday, 27 August 2009 23:22

Over the ups and downs of the last few weeks I've been blessed by some great friends and their support. Not all of them read my blog or take notice of a word I say but I want to make a gesture of acknowledgement all the same, so in no particular order (this will feature in my oscar acceptance speech for best movie, Matthew Knott's Dune):

Demetrie, through you all things, if not actually possible, seem possible. You're a stalwart friend, inspiration, and above all else you're always there for everyone. Plus you play a decent tune. Here's hoping you get lucky with Amy, and yes I mean that in whatever way you're thinking it.

Mat Llewellyn, you've given me the idea for my retirement project, the spicy jalapeño sausage (not a euphemism), good advice and the confidence to try and fulfill my potential. Feel ultimately that I've let you down in life, but I'll try to change that in the future.

Lisa M, always there with a caring ear and a kind word and some funny picture of Ross Kemp. Probably the friend I've had the most laughs with in life, hope we get to be sillier soon.

Mike H, thank you for the opportunity to set my ship on course for calmer waters, it means so much.

James, my manager, but more than a manager, you've been so understanding with work and really bent over backwards to make life easier for me.

Mum, thanks for generally being great, in particular getting made redundant was great for us because you've solved mondays baby sitting problem, cheers.

Gareth T, solid as always, I'd like to quote Billy Joel, he's quick with a joke, or to light up your smoke, but there's some place that he'd rather be". That almost works apart from the smoking bit (i don't smoke, you hate it yadda yadda), and that place where you'd rather be, I think that's where you are when zoned out. Your endless compassion and love is overshadowed only by your astounding ability to say the most inappropriate things at the worst moments, but that's why I love you.

Andy Cairns, thanks for putting on a gig in Swansea and ticking off an entry on my "Things to do before the conservatives get in" list.

Lisa, thanks for being the best wife in the world, giving me another beautiful baby before too long.

Tristun, if you've got this far down the list I'm impressed, thanks for your videos on youtube, they made me laugh but maybe not in the places you intended.

Okay, that's the list for now, I'll add in anyone I've forgotten as it comes to me.

In other news, I've bought tickets to the Therapy? gig in Swansea in October. If you want a good night at a bargain price, I suggest you go. I will be a different person (Call me Abdul). Please get a ticket and come along.
