Generic NinePlanFailed gig review

Posted on Sunday, 30 August 2009 23:02

You can have too much of a good thing, it's true, but you can also write too much about a good band.

I enjoy writing about my love of NinePlanFailed, but they're just so damn good I can't help but gush and write the same each time.

I was thinking tonight, as I was about to start this post with a more obvious title, that in some ways it's pointless me writing about NinePlanFailed gigs. I can't fault them, I really can't. What they say is bad, I say is raw and visceral, and what they think is good I think is perfection.

The essence of their music is such that the only time it would drop in my estimation is if their hearts clearly weren't in it. For me with a live gig it's about the energy of the band rather than the notes being perfect, that's what studio time is for. I've got a load of unreleased nirvana stuff and some of the songs are indecipherable, but in it's own right it's a wonderful piece of music. Transiberia for me was the highligh of the night, great energy. The crowd were enjoying it also, but Die Dionysis never fails to get people clapping or chanting DIE at the end.

They're a great trio, because even if one falls behind the other two will just pull it back. Nathans drumming tonight was amongst the best I've heard it, such a powerful sound. The sound levels were atrocious, absolutely abysmal. Too much bass at the start, to little guitar. But if they were feeling in a rut tonght, I'm feeling the same with this post. No energy no funny ccomments or anything.

One thing I don't think is pointless about writing these reviews is the change to promote them a bit more, but if they can pull off a festival date next year, the success will follow.

In other news, it was good to catch up with Mat and Neil tonight, and to bump into Paul O'Brien from Psycho Kiss.

  • Posted by DimYou really are too kind. Having slept on last night's performance, I don't feel as bad as I did about it initially.
And whilst last night's performance ranks as a personal low, it at least has the positive effect of making me/us wanting to get the next one better.
But hey, it was cool to see you, Mat and Neil out. Thanks for coming, as always. Your continued support at gigs, and these posts make it all good.
Hey - you've got some interesting posts coming up; 'The day I filmed a promo', and, when edited, 'My collaboration with Packard for Transiberia' :)
  • Welcome, posted by MattJust in a bit of a funk with life at the minute, couldn't get into writing last night. I love coming, I love the music, I come to support you as much as I come to be thoroughly entertained.
It's like if I was Andy Cairns' friend, I'd go for him, but love the music so it's a reciprocative arrangement.
I don't know what it is though I just can't seem to conjure an ounce of humour or wit.
  • Posted by DimHey, no worries, amigo! You don't have to be 'on' all the time. I certainly wasn't last night!

'Funk with life'. I know it.
