Idea: mical

I'm going to create a system for storing dates that are important to me as an addition to this blog

Blogs are fast becoming windows into peoples lives, I want to take that further so people can see what happened to someone on a particular day in their life.

Credit for this idea goes indirectly to Andy Cairns. I was looking at my "Music through a cheap transistor" Therapy? album, specifically that the song I was listening to was recorded in session with John Peel on 21/11/1992. 17 years ago more or less. I then started thinking about how great it must have been to meet the legendary peel, something I may have blogged about possibly.

I then started thinking about how that information could be presented in an "On This Day" format. Over time this could build into a catalogue of important events, thoughts and other references to revolve around a point in time.

For example, if I had blogged on the Peel sessions, the "On this day" entry could be "17 years ago: Therapy record with John Peel in session" With a link to a related post. The links are optional, it may be the user just wants to remember something special about a certain day.

Over several years this could build into a remarkable insight into what is important to someone. Any thoughts?

  • Posted by Neilisn't this more of a diary than a calendar Matt?

Is the name an ode to your son?
  • Not Really, posted by MattNo, it's not just about writing events down, it's about writing what they mean, or meant, or made you think of. Then they're output in an "On This Day" format. They also tie in with relevant blog posts.

The name was a happy coincidence :)
