Integrating SharePoint with Google Apps: Preview

Posted on Friday, 10 September 2010 11:00

SharePoint and Google Apps aren't naturally great bedfellows but with some development, they can be amazing. Google Apps for education provide a number of excellent services for free. Among others this includes Document storage and editing, Groups, Calendar, Chat and Email.

You might not be aware just how easily you can leverage Google's massive tool set, but once your authentication is integrated you can easily share information between the two.

I'm going to cover the theory behind our Single Sign-On (SSO) solution, and show how you can write your own. I'll also cover how you can share documents between the two, manage users and contact lists.

The situation is that after this post, I found out that I have to be careful what details I share. Although we're a non profit organization this functionality gives us certain tactical advantages.

The code for doing that saml portion of the google sso is freely available from google, all I can really share is my approach in terms of infrastructure. If you think that would be useful then let me know.
